I know what it s like to wake up and not have enough to eat. I have experienced those moments in my life growing up as a child. I come from a struggling family of peasants. And even though I am more fortunate now then say my mother was in her childhood, I can't help but to keep the past close at hand so that I can stay well grounded.
Its not easy to be disciplined when it comes to budgeting and learning to live within one's means. I can say that because even for me it is sometimes a hard battle. Part of the problem is that here in the USA we live an environment where we are bombarded with advertisements that often send the wrong messages. We often feel compelled to keep up with the latest trends. And for those of us that are barely making ends meet, we tend to find ourselves in trouble because we start living on credit, borrowing money we can't afford to pay back.
Financial freedom for me means I have to live within my means. Yes I use a credit card, but I also make sure I pay the full balance on time every month. And if I do carry a balance, it's usually on a card with a 0% introductory offer for 6 months or more.
The rules are simple and the road to financial freedom, I realize, is as easy as I want it to be. I started by learning first to never to spend more than I make. Second, save a portion of my earnings for a rainy day. And third, investing some of my earnings so that my money works for me as well.
